Arts: Paintings

Introduction
The statue of famous writers such as Goethe and Schiller can be found in the city of Weimar.


Lion statues can also be found in Germany to represent a strong and fearless “King” of the “Kingdom”.

The statues above are only a few statues that the Germans have. This shows that art is not a new thing to them. It has started way beyond history. In fact, Germany has 5,219 museums which will take up to years to visit all of them.

Most of the museums are old and well established and contains valuable arts from Germany as well as all over the world.

There are many forms of artworks that appear in churches. From the architecture, to the wall paintings, and then to the stained glass windows.

Paintings
In the Gothic Art period (c. 1150 – 1500), new churches were constructed with taller and larger windows. These large windows were filled with stained glasses that are commonly seen in Catholic Churches. Gerhard Richter was the first to invent this form of artwork. The wall paintings, also known as frescoes, had to made way tall glass windows.

The manuscript illumination flourished in Germany and depict secular themes such as festivals, tournaments and hunting.

Romantic Art emphasized on rationality, and also humanistic. The paintings stressed on the emotional, subconscious and the spiritual.
